Mt. Dhaulagiri, the seventh highest mountain in the world, is one of the most desired peaks that stand tall at an altitude of 8,167m. Dhaulagiri, meaning the White Mountain is also the highest mountain situated entirely within Nepal. Dhaulagiri extends towards the Western part of Nepal and is separated from Annapurna massif by the Kaligandaki gorge, the deepest gorge in Nepal.
The first ascent to this dazzling white peak was made in 1960 by a Swiss/Nepali/ Austrian expedition. Dhaulagiri rises 7,000 m from the Kaligandaki River 30km to the southeast, which is unparalleled to any peak. Although the northeast ridge is the most widely used one, Dhaulagiri is accessible from all sides due to its long ridges and glacial valleys. Dhaulagiri is less frequently climbed than other peaks in the periphery probably due to its remoteness and isolation.
The trek starts from Khara into the deep remote valleys offering an exceptional opportunity to immerse ourselves into the remoteness and also acclimatize our bodies for the expedition. We pass through temperate zones traversing the beautiful and culturally rich villages which still practice traditional agricultural techniques. Then slowly ascending towards the tropical to the alpine zone, we will explore the immense beauty of the Dhaulagiri region witnessing the shining peaks in the backdrop. Our highly qualified and experienced chefs and cooks will prepare hot and fulfilling meals for our palate which will not only keep us energized but also build stamina for the upcoming climb. Finally, we will reach 4700m to set up a base camp from where we will commence our climb. Then we follow the route that leads through a wide glacier onto the broad north col where we will set up Camp 1. Then, following the broad snow slopes, we will set up Camp 2 at 6,500 m. Camp 3 is led by a steep climb until the crest of Northeast ridge. The summit day will be tiring as we start at midnight. But the glorious and magnificent view that we are rewarded with when on top, is worthy of all hardships and pain.
The best season to go on an expedition to Dhaulagiri is spring and Autumn when nature is blooming to its fullest. One can view the breathtaking sceneries of the dazzling White Mountains as well as lush green forests and farmlands. The weather is moderate with neither too cold nights nor too hot days.
