Langtang Ganja-La Pass Trek offers snow secured high passes, great perspectives of mountains, old religious communities, lovely Langtang and Helambu valleys, and natural life. Ganjala Pass Trek takes you from the busy trails of Langtang region to the quaint trails of Helambu via the frozen Ganja-La Pass (5122m) and allows you to be amid pristine nature unspoiled with human interference.
The trek starts from Syabrubensi and passes several Tamang villages before reaching the famous Tamang village in the Langtang valley. Followed by a cultural exploration in the Langtang village, the trail moves on through the alpine vegetation to reach the ancient monastery of Kyanjin Gompa. Kyanjin Gompa is the most sacred monastery for the Tamangs in the Langtang region. The trail then reaches the compelling Ganja-La Pass (5122m), the highest altitude of the trek, which is frozen throughout the year. The trail then goes through the Sherpa villages of Helambu and finishes at Melamchi Pul in the Helambu region. The Tamang village of Langtang, spectacular views of Langtang range, the dense forest of rhododendron and pine, numerous Buddhist monasteries, local cheese factories, the diverse flora, and fauna are the highlights of this trek. An opportunity to see the red panda makes this trip equally enticing.
From the time you arrive in Kathmandu, the capital and cultural city of Nepal, we will be there at the airport to greet you and take you to your hotel.
Early morning start seven-hour journey to the Langtang Valley. The road climbs high over ridges as it leaves the Kathmandu Valley, and provides impressive views of the Annapurna Himalayas in the west, to Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the peaks of the Langtang region ahead.
We drive through the bustling town of Trisuli before climbing towards Dunche and the Langtang National Park. After the town of Dunche it is another hour downhill to Syabru Besi and your lodge for the night.
The trail today takes us across the Bhote Kosi (meaning Tibet River) which flows from Tibet. The trail then climbs through sub-tropical forest and then joins the trail coming from Syabru Besi, and then ascends through oak and rhododendron forests. On the trail it is very likely we will encounter Langur monkeys in the tree tops. The trail continues up a steep incline before reaching the Lama Hote .
Today the trail takes us toward Ghode Tabala from where we will have our first views of the enormous mountain Langtang Lirung (7227m). The trail takes us through a Rhododendron forest – more spectacular during spring when it is in full pink bloom. There is also a national park office here. Today’s trek will take between four to five hours before reaching Langtang Village (3450m) where we will stay the night.
Today’s trek is relatively easy and takes about 3 hours but slowly gains altitude which necessitates taking it at a slower pace. The trail is not too difficult which gives you more time to appreciate the valley and mountain scenery. We eventually reach Kyanjin Gompa in the afternoon. If you feel more energetic you may decide to trek to Kyanjin Ri (4779m) and then return back to the hotel for the night.
This is essentially a rest day that will give you time to acclimatize before heading to higher altitudes. Health professionals recommend staying active, so we will hike around the hill near Kyanjin gompa.
Our journey to Ganja La Phedi is definitely a beautiful one as we cross the Langtang River and enter the evergreen blooming Rhododendron forests. Being in high elevation, the trek becomes challenging. During the winters, because of the snow it may take longer to trek.
We have a long 7 to 8 hour challenging trek ahead of us today as we head to Ganja La Pass. It is most likely covered with snow as it is for most of the year. We pass a number of small lakes on the trail as we head to the rugged and desolate moraine at the pass. From the pass, we have magnificent views. We then descend to Keldang where we stay the night.
After breakfast we head off on a five to six hour trek descending down the ridge, passing through forests and pasturelands before reaching Yak Kharka Village where we stay the night.
Today the trail descends 1500 meters taking around 5 to 6 hours. As we descend the vegetation changes from being a rider to more lush forests. Tonight we stay at Tarke-Gang.
Our trek today will follow the trail for around 5 to 6 hours heading to Sermathang Village. Along the trail we will see many icons and evidence of the Sherpa culture, such as Mani stones, monasteries, and prayer flags. The trail takes us through more dense forests before reaching Sermathang Village where we will stay the night at a tea house or lodge.
On our last day we trek to Melamchi Bazaar where we have a lunch break and walk around the village before taking a vehicle back to Kathmandu.
White Himalayan Adventure representative will transfer you to the airport for your final departure from Nepal.
